Verba, Unstructured, and Nuem — It’s Nov. 2023, and every company wants “chat my data,” and they want it yesterday. But they’re encountering a couple of huge non-starters: The majority of their data is sensitive and can’t leave their datacenter There are surprisingly few “get all my data into a LLM” enterprise solutions (Microsoft Fabric…

Comparing Falcon-180B to GPT4

A Quick & Crude Side-By-Side — Falcon-180b dropped on HuggingFace today, and is touted as the “new state-of-the-art for open models”. Most of use won’t be able to host it ourselves, but a nice chatbot demo is already available. Since I have a GPT4 account, thought it would a nice opportunity to compare some side-by-side prompts…

Supercharge Your Scientific Workflow in Minutes — Note this requires PyCharm Professional Edition. It feels like the world runs on Jupyter Notebooks. I am old enough to remember the ancient era of the IPython consoles and how the game changed with the advent of notebooks (fun fact — they were…

In the months since, it’s gone viral, being featured in Business Insider, spawning Reddit threads, and so on. The reception to the article was mixed, with comments leapfrogging from gracious to incredulous to outright nasty. …

Note to self — what to do if I get sick

This is not a real post — literally just tired of paying $30 copay every year when I get a cold, just to forget what the Dr. told me each time. 95% chance you have a virus not a bacterial infection. Bacterial infections are more isolated to one spot (ie. left cheek hurts) and other reasons. Take an antihistamine, so can double up on zyrtec or benadryl at night. Flonase (nasal steroid) twice a day (only take when sick) — 1 puff each nostril

Dead Simple: Kubernetes Single Pod with Rolling Updates

Sometimes you have k8s apps that only need a single replica. For example, a few dozen people only use a minor web service internally. However, when updating it, you still don’t want to have any downtime. K8s is weird about this, so there are plenty of StackOverflow questions. TLDR —…

AI Just Took Grammarly to the Moon

Finally, a Company That Delivered — Disclaimer: I have no affiliation with Grammarly. Last night I was watching TV and saw a commercial for GrammarlyGO, Grammarly’s new AI assistant. It caught my interest for two reasons: I never see Grammarly commercials so they are spending on this one. The commercial explicitly referenced Medium, Outlook, and other…
